How we are Spreading Joy in Tungan Makama Community

It was an exciting day for the 380 pupils of Hayatudeen Islamic Primary School; a conventional school in Tungan Makama, Niger State, Nigeria when they saw government officials mounting a signpost in their school compound indicating that their school was admitted into the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme. It was exciting because they were supposed to be getting a free lunch meal in school from that time on. But this excitement started dwindling as months go by. One month, two months, three months, four months and five months passed by and no child had been fed to date. The community leaders tried all they could to get the government’s attention but it led to no avail, therefore, the signpost was pulled down by some dissatisfied community members.
An active citizen, who you may describe as a good samaritan, was moved by the plight of the children and the community decided to take an action on their behalf. This action was to report the situation on our I Take Actions platform. After a thorough investigation, we created a call for actions which was taken by 31 citizens registered on the platform. These actions caught the attention of the government and after a series of engagement, we are glad to announce that daily free lunch meals will commence in Hayatudeen Islamic Primary School under the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in the next batch.
This means that the 380 children in the school would be nourished enough to pay better attention to what they are being taught in school and be able to function more productively in school. This would also reduce the number of out-of-school children in the community and other communities the school is serving. Imagine the joy in the community when the news reached them.
With your support as low as N1,000 we can spread this joy to more communities in Nigeria. Please support our work here.
